Watson, James

American molecular biologist born in Chicago, Illinois (1928-). His early work focused on bacterial viruses, but he is best known for his contributions to determining the double-helix structure of DNA in 1953 (at the young age of 25). For this work, Watson shared the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1962 with Francis Crick and Maurice Wilkins.
