Spallanzani, Lazzaro

Italian microscopist and biologist, born in Scandiano (1729-1799). He investigated spontaneous generation of microorganisms in broth and herbal infusions. Spallanzani also studied the circulatory system, pioneered artificial insemination, and proposed that bats navigate by echolocation.
