Russian inventor and chemist born in Tobolsk, Siberia (1834-1907). Mendeleev's most famous work is the development of the periodic table of elements, and his prediction of properties of elements that were, at that time, not yet discovered. In 1869, Mendeleev helped found the Russian Chemical Society. He researched in many fields, including physics, hydrodynamics, meteorology, and chemical technology.
