Loschmidt, Johann Josef

Austrian chemist and physicist, born in Pocerny (now part of the Czech Republic) (1821-1895). He worked in thermodynamics, optics, and electrodynamics. One of his many contributions to science was the accurate calculation of the average size of the gas molecules that make up air.
